Magic Circle - Acrylic on linen
"After traditioinal art training, Earl Horter awakened my interest in abstract art in the 1930's. By 1940 I had small non-objective sketches that I developed and enlarged. The first of these were exhibited in 1945. I continued both realisitic and abstract painting long with careers as illustrator, designer, teacher and art diector.
In 1970 I moved to a home/studio with facilities for bigger canvases, up to 6 by 9 feet. These were geometrics on white primed canvas, but by 1980 I had changed to transparent acrylics on tan raw linen to add texture and warmth. My compositions were variations on grid systems.
In recent years I have concentrated on pure abstraction and seek further means of engaging the viewer. I am experimenting with dimension and the illusion of dimension, optical mixture of color, new methods of creating texture and paint quality, free form design, use of ancient and contemporary symbols."
